A human has never landed on Mars but there have been many probes sent to orbit and land on Mars by the soviet union and by the United States of America.

The reason for exploring Mars is in order to find if there is water existing on the planet as a large part of the planet's surface is made up of Iron Oxide which is more commonly known as "rust".
