As we become older we tend to degenerate(cells) and one of the symptoms for this is falling hair.

It's genetic. Baldness is a sex-linked recessive trait, carried on the X chromosome. Because men have only a single X chromosome, they will exhibit baldness if that chromosome carries the gene. Women, however, have two X chromosomes. Since baldness is recessive, both chromosomes have to carry the gene in order for it to take effect. This is somewhat rarer than the male baldness situation, but it does occur.
